Marwa, Badaru Commiserates with Gov. Zulum, Shehu, and Borno Residents over Flood Disaster

Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) has expressed his heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the government and people of Borno state over the devastating flood disaster that has displaced thousands of residents and damaged several properties.
Marwa who is a former Military Governor of the old Borno state in his condolence message to the state governor, Prof Babagana Zulum on Wednesday 11th September 2024 empathized with him, the Shehu of Borno, His Highness Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanem, victims and residents over the natural disaster.
The NDLEA boss, “I will like to assure Governor Zulum, the Shehu of Borno, the affectees and indeed the good people of Borno state that they are not alone at this difficult time. Our prayers and sympathies are with them as we continue to pray that the flood will recede quickly and the people will return to their daily life and activities.”
He expressed sincere respect for the officials of federal and state emergency agencies, NGOs and well spirited individuals who are providing support, relief and rescue efforts on the ground in the affected communities in the state.
A statement by Femi Babafemi, Spokesman  NDLEA said, “Seventyt per cent of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, was reportedly submerged by the fast-moving waters from Alau dam that overflowed following torrential rainfall.
“The flood also ravaged other major areas, including the palace of the Shehu of Borno, the state secretariat, post office, cemetery, Lagos area, Bulabulin, Gwange, Monday market, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and Kofar Shehu, among other locations.
In the same vein, the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, on Wednesday extended his heartfelt sympathy to the Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum and the people of Borno State, “following the devastating floods that have engulfed parts of Maiduguri, the state capital and .caused significant damage to properties and displaced many residents, adding to the challenges already faced by the state”.
“My heartfelt sympathy goes to the people and government of Borno State at this trying period that flood has wrecked havoc in the state caused by the overflow of the Alau Dam.
“I am deeply saddened by the unfortunate flooding in Maiduguri, which has displaced families and caused untold hardship to the people of this great city. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time,” said Mohammed Badaru.
“I want to commend His Excellency Governor Zulum for the quick response and decisive actions taken to alleviate the suffering of the affected residents.
“The resilience of the Borno people in the face of adversity is remarkable, and I have no doubt that under Governor Zulum’s leadership, Maiduguri will recover swiftly from this disaster,” the Minister remarked.”
