Military, Media vows Synergy on National Security

Communique on Defence Correspondents Seminar 2017, Organized by the Directorate of Defence Information.
 
At the end of a one day seminar for Defence and Security Correspondents held at Defence headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, a communique jointly agreed to by the media practitioners and the Directorate of Defence Information was released.
 
The Communion signed by Major General John Enenche, Director, Defence Information (DDI) reads, “Both the armed forces of Nigeria and the Press should always be conscious of national security and national interest in the totality of their information management.
 
“There should be no mutual suspicion between the military and the Press.
 
“The armed forces of Nigeria would release timely and accurate information to the Press for onward dissemination to the public.
 
“The regular dialogue between the press and the armed forces of Nigeria should be sustained.
 
“The press should endeavour to clear grey points from the appropriate Defence Information source before publishing.
 
“Defence information sources should make themselves readily and easily accessible to Defence Correspondents”.
 
Among resource persons present at the seminar to share their wealth of experience were the former Director, Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade (rtd) and Mr. Shola Atere, formerly of NTA. 
Also present at the seminar were spokespersons from all the security and para-military agencies in the country.
