Military steps up efforts at curtailing Human Rights violation by troops; as 3 female suicide bombers are killed in fail attack on Jere village.

 
President of the Nigerian Army Special Board of Enquiry, Major-General Ahmed Jubrin (Rtd), says efforts are on to stem the tide of human rights abuse by military personnel thereby restoring the confidence of the public in the institution.
 
Jubrin who said this while addressing journalists at Lagos House, Alausa, after a meeting with Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, said the Army was determined to address the issue of alleged dehumanizing treatment.
 
He disclosed that the meeting with the governor was part of the strategic engagement of the board to carry along critical stakeholders on efforts being made by the Army to stem the tide.
 
According to Jibrin, “This Board of Enquiry was set up by the Chief of Army Staff to investigate all cases of human rights violation leveled against personnel of Nigerian Army in their war against insurgents in the North East and in their internal security operation in the South East.
“We are here to brief Governor Ambode on what effort the Army headquarters is making on the allegation making rounds in the media that the Army, in their operations, has committed gross violation of human rights.
 
“Arising from the allegations, the COAS set up this Board and the committee is made up of retired officers, activists from the legal sector and human rights groups, as well as some serving personnel.”
 
Meanwhile, Members of the Civilian JTF in Borno state, foiled a suicide attack on Mamanti Village in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State, by intercepting three female suicide bombers, who tried to infiltrate the village, the state police commissioner, Damien Chukwu, said.
 
The CP in a text message said one of the bombers detonated her bomb which claimed her life but the other two were shot dead while trying to flee.
 
The message reads, “Borno State Police Command information just received indicates, today (Monday) at about 0510hrs, three female suicide bombers attempted to enter Mamanti village in Jere local government area.
“They were intercepted by Civilian JTF. In the process, one of the bombers detonated IED strapped to her body killing herself alone.
 
“The other two tried to escape but were shot dead by security personnel on duty.
 
“EOD mine drafted to the scene to sanitize and render the area safe. Normalcy is restored.”
