MNJTF Force Commander, Major Gen Ali Reiterates Force’s Commitment to Restoring Peace in Lake Chad Region; Says False Claims of Niger Troops Withdrawal Intended to Incite Panic/Sow Seeds of Insecurity on Border Communities

The Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major General Ibrahim Ali, has reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to achieving its mandate of restoring peace to the Lake Chad Region.

Furthermore, he expressed the Force’s dedication to aiding communities in their resettlement efforts, enabling them to return to normal lives and resume their economic activities.

Speaking on rumors circulating on social media about alleged withdrawal of troops of Niger Republic from MNJTF following the recent military coup in the country, Gen Ali categorically debunked the claims as baseless and clearly intended to incite panic and sow seeds of insecurity among the border communities.

The High Command of the Multi-national Joint Task Force fighting against terrorism and extremist violence in the Lake Chad Basin Countries had dismissed media reports of certain organizations claiming that troops from Niger Republic who are part of the Joint Task Force have withdrawn thereby exposing border communities of North East to terrorists’ invasion.

A statement by Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Spokesman said, “The attention of Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has been drawn to inaccurate media reports by section of Nigerian media on the alleged withdrawal of Sector 4 Niger from the MNJTF.

“We would like to categorically state that these insinuations are baseless and lack any official correspondence, and Niger remains an integral member of the MNJTF.

“The MNJTF was established with the objective of creating a safe and secure environment in areas affected by activities of Boko Haram and other terrorist groups.

“Niger, along with other member countries, provides crucial support in achieving this mandate.

“We want to emphasize that at no point has there been any official communication regarding Niger’s withdrawal or exit from the MNJTF.

“These insinuations undermine the collaborative efforts and commitment of all member countries in their fight against terrorism and insecurity in the region.

“We urge media outlets and individuals to verify information from credible sources before broadcasting or disseminating it further.

“The MNJTF is committed to promoting peace, security, and stability in the region, and we emphasize the importance of accurate reporting to maintain public trust and confidence in our collective efforts.”
