Murtala Muhammed Airport not under attack by terrorists; peaceful – Police, FAAN; Video of Airforce Simulation exercise done 3 years ago

The attention of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command has been drawn to a video trending on the social media purporting that the MMIA is under attack by terrorists.

In view of the disturbing video, the authorities of Lagos State Police Command contacted the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations at the Airport Command and he stated that the video was that of a simulation exercise carried out by the Nigerian Airforce in conjuction with other agencies at the airport three years ago.

The Command wishes to assure members of the public that MMIA is safe and secure and not under any form of attack as wickedly portrayed by those behind the rumour.

A statement signed by CSP Chike Oyi, PPRO, Lagos Police Command noted that, “Already, the Commissioner of Police has directed the Command’s Intelligence Unit to unmask the persons behind the the rumour for prosecution”.

Also speaking on the issue, the Federal Aitports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) dismissed the report and video purporting a terrorist attack.

A statement by Mrs. Yakubu Henrieta, General Manager, Corporate Affsirs said, “Our attention has been drawn to a video trending on the social media to the effect that the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos is under terrorist attack.

“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria will like to state unequivocally that MMIA is not under any kind of attack. The video in question is that of an old simulation exercise carried out by the Nigerian Air Force in conjunction with other aviation agencies.

“The Authority will like to advise those uploading such to desist from the act as it is not only malicious, wicked, embarrassing, but also sending the wrong signals to the world about the internal security of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
