National Defence College (NDC) gets New Commandant; Rear Admiral Makanju Mackson Kadiri..

A new Commandant for the National Defence College, Nigeria, has been appointed.

He is Rear Admiral Makanju Mackson Kadiri.

The Commandant took over from Rear Admiral A A Osinowo who was the 16th Commandant of the Highest Strategic Military Training Institution in Nigeria.

The change was necessitated as Rear Admiral Adeniyi Osinowo proceeded on retirement with effect from 2 March 2019 after 35 years of service in the Armed Forces.

The new commandant becomes the 17th commandant of the prestigious college.

The incumbent commandant, Rear Admiral Mackson Kadiri was granted Regular Combatant Commission in the rank of Sub Lieutenant in 1988 and rose to the current rank of Rear Admiral in 2015.

Before his appointment, Rear Admiral Kadiri was the Chief of Training and Operations at Naval headquarters.

He is a specialist Navigation and Direction officer who has attended several professional and academic courses.

The senior officer is a graduate of the Senior Staff Course, Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, Marine Safety Course, United States Coast Guard Training Centre, Virginia United States of America, United Nations Administration and Logistic Course and International Peace Support Centre Nairobi Kenya.

The senior officer who holds a Master of Science degree in Political Science has served in different capacities afloat and ashore in the course of his career.

Rear Admiral Kadiri served at different times onboard Nigeria Navy Ships RUWANYARO,OBUMA, AGU,HADEIJA,AYAM, LANA, OFIOM and AMBE.

He was Commanding Officer Forward Operating Base FORMOSO and served as a directing staff at both the Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji and National Defence College Nigeria.

He also served as Director Recruitment, Resettlement and Reserve; Director Monitoring, Evaluation and Reserve as well as Director of Operations all at the Naval Headquarters, Abuja.

The senior officer was the Director Department of Maritime Warfare at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji and Navy Secretary at the Naval Headquarters.

The Admiral has participated in several international conferences and symposiums, the most recent being the Senior Leaders’ Symposium in Abidjan (2017), the Gulf of Guinea Commission Summit in Malabo (2016)and the Gulf of Guinea Navies’ Summit in Paris (2018).

He is a Fellow of both the Nigerian Institute of Management and the Occupational Safety and Health Association of United Kingdom.

He is also a Member of the United States Naval Institute. The senior officer is a recipient of the Grand Service Star (GSS), pass staff course dagger (psc+) and fellow defence college dagger (fdc+). His hobbies include reading biographies, watching and playing tennis and soccer.
