Navy destroys 500 illegal refineries in 6 months

 
The Nigerian Navy has destroyed over 500 illegal refineries in the past six months in the Niger Delta region.
 
Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette. Ibas who disclosed this while receiving the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Hajia Hadiza Bala Usman in his office in Abuja said that the Navy has succeeded in reducing piracy in the maritime environment.
 
He noted that the Navy and the NPA have been working together to boost the country’s economic development.
 
According to him, “in the last three months we have never heard of attacks or hijacking of vessels coming into the country as this can be attributed to the Navy Patrol and Surveillance on daily basis in the sea”.
 
The CNS added that the Navy had fully secured the maritime environment, which is equally impacting on the NPA’s operations.
 
The NPA Managing Director, noted that the Navy has been very instrumental to the successes being achieved by the Authority and assured of their support to Navy in its financial implications to continue the good work they are doing
 
Also, she disclosed that, the Takwa bay Lagos forward operating base (FOB) which has been on the drawing board for over 10 years is to be constructed as the NPA has included it in their 2017 budget.
