Navy Promotes, Decorates 19 Naval Master Warrant Officers

The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla on Monday decorated 19 Naval Master Warrant Officers, the highest rank as NCOs, as part of the military tradition and practices to promote personnel who are qualified and have met relevant criteria by service expectations of hard work and commitment.

“More importantly, to have an unblemished record of service is one of the keys for elevation in the course of duties”, the CNS said.

Speaking at the decoration ceremony of the 19 NMWOs, Vice Admiral Ogalla who was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Rear Admiral Joseph Akpan, said, “the decoration is something to be proud of as he applauded them for the achievement”. 

He commended the decorated officers for their sacrifice to their Fatherland and sacrifice for the Nigerian Navy, especially at this particular period of very challenging security situation in the maritime environment.

The CNS pointed out that the elevated officers have played key roles in the past adding that now they will be called upon to play even more important roles, because when they are deployed, some of them will find themselves at the Niger Delta and so, they should not allow the elevation to rubbish them by their attitude towards their duties.

He urged them to remember that more power comes with great responsibility, moreso he implored them to lead by example and be a reference point, shun vices that would taint the image of the Nigerian Navy. Inaddition, be able to bridge the gap between Officers and Men to carry out the vision and mission of the Chief of the Naval Staff

He urged them to maintain the confidence put on them before now because if they are indisciplined, they will not get promoted adding that as they are promoted, they should live by example and finish their service well.

The CNS commended the spouses and families for the support given to the officers which enabled them to attain such a level as he urged them for more support in the course of their duties.

Speaking on behalf of the decorated officers, the most senior, Naval Master Officer Philip Shishi expressed their gratitude to God and to the chief of the Naval Staff for finding them worthy of this promotion to the rank of Naval Master Warrant Officers, promising to ensure more dedication to their duties.

He assured the CNS that the team would uphold the sanctity of their new rank with more dedication and continue to be loyal to actualize the vision of the CNS.
