NDA inter Battalion Athletics Competition: Abyssinia battalion bags 12 gold medals; emerge champions

As the cadet brigade inter battalion athletic competition ended on Thursday, 17 January 2019, Abyssinia battalion emerged winners carting away the champion trophy along side 12 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze medals.

Mogadishu battalion came second with 10 gold, 10 silver and 7 bronze medals. Burma came third with 7 gold, 6 silver and 11 bronze, while Darlet battalion who came fourth with 4 gold, 9 silver, 10 bronze medals.

Addressing the cadet at the end of the competition, the commandant Nigerian Defense Academy, Maj Gen Adeniyi Oyebade expressed satisfaction on the cadets performance during the the event.

He said in addition to testing and improving their physical fitness, the NDA through exercises like this inculcate the spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship in the lives of the cadets, which according to him is an important virtue that will help them as they grow in their military career.

Beyond their various positions in the competition, the commandant added that the academy will continually test and measure the fitness of the cadets urging them to put in their best in subsequent events.

Further in his remarks, General Oyebade expressed delight on the performance of the female cadets performance saying that he was pleased that they are not lagging behind but instead competing favourably alongside their male counterparts.

The week long event featured track and field events ranging from Discus, High Jump, Jevelin throw, shotput, limitation relay, short and long distance race and combat race among others in which the cadet battalions keenly competed for the first position.
