New Air Power Assets: Air Marshal Abubakar Conducts Operational Visit to North East.

Following the induction of the newly acquired Mi35 Helicopter Gunships and the expected and conversion of the L39Za Albatross to attack jets, Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal SB Abubakar at the weekend undertook an operational visit to the Nigerian Air Force unit in Yola.

According to the Director of NAF Public Relations, Air Commodore Olatokumbo Adesanya, “The primary purpose of the visit was to ascertain the state of readiness of facilities being put in place to operate and maintain some of the recently acquired platforms by the Nigerian Air Force”.

Since there are indications that the new assets are meant to be deployed for final clearance of the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists as well as decimation of hideouts and mobile logistics bases of the terrorists, Adesanya said, “The visit revealed that most of the facilities were indeed ready.

He disclosed that, “The apron had been expanded to provide more maneuverability for the increased number of aircraft while taxiing on ground.

“Additional shelters being constructed for the new aircraft were also nearly completed.

“The Chief of the Air Staff equally inspected the Liquid Oxygen (LOX) Plant that was being constructed to facilitate the supply of Liquid Oxygen for use by Nigerian Air Force fighter pilots.

“It is noteworthy that upon completion of the plant, the Nigerian Air Force would be able to supply Liquid Oxygen for use by surrounding hospitals”, he added.

Air Marshal Abubakar seized the opportunity of the operational visit to directly interact with the Nigerian Air Force personnel in the frontline towards addressing their welfare needs.
