New Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI) Major General SA Adebayo takes over at DIA

The newly appointed Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI) Maj.-Gen. Samuel Adebayo on Friday, took over the leadership of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA).

His predecessor, Air Vice Marshal Muhammed Sani Usman, earlier on Feb. 8, 2021 handed over the leadership of the agency to his Deputy, Maj.-Gen. Gbolahan Oyefesobi, following his retirement from service.

Oyefesobi, however, handed over to the new CDI on Friday at the agency’s headquarters.

Adebayo, who thanked God and President Muhammadu Buhari for considering him worthy for the appointment, promised to sustain and build on the achievements of the agency under his predecessor.

Major General Adebayo was a former Director of Operations at the Agency. He was at several times, Chief of Staff at Nigerian Army Corps of Military Intelligence (NAIC), Director of Military Intelligence and  later, the Chief of Military Intelligence, Nigerian Army before his current appointment.

The new CDI expressed confidence that the agency would achieve its desired goals under his leadership even as he noted that so much has been achieved by the Armed Forces of Nigeria in dealing with security issues.

“Security agencies are also doing their best but much more still needs to be done” he said.

“In particular, the DIA has continued to raise the bar in the intelligence state craft and considering the achievements of the former CDI, I know that the task ahead is daunting but clearly achievable” he added.

Major General Adebayo was commended in the past for innovations and application of modern technological tools of intelligence gathering, processing and application which greatly assisted in the decimation of Boko Haram terrorists cells and hideouts as well as clearance of many armed bandits camps in the North West and North Central zones of the country.

Recall that Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Sani Usman was nominated along with former Chief of Defence, and former Chiefs of Army Staff, Naval Staff and Air Staff, Olonisakin, Buratai, Ibas and Abubakar for Ambassadorial appointments in appreciation of their loyalty and commitment towards tackling insecurity during their tenure under President Muhammadu Buhari.
