New Immigration Regulations will re-position Internal Security Operations in Nigeria-Dambazau.

Internal Affairs Minister, Abdurahman Dambazau has said that the new immigration Policy document introduced by the federal government, under the 2017 Immigration Regulations will reposition the Internal Security Architecture in Nigeria.

The Minister remarked with enthusiasm the need to replace the old Immigration Regulations enacted in 1963 had long become overdue.

 He noted that the nation has experienced all round advancement in every facet of our National life, thereby rendering the 54 years old document obsolete.

The 2017 Immigration Regulations is sequel to the passage of Nigeria Immigration Act in 2015 by the National Assembly and subsequent signing of the Executive Order by President Muhammandu Buhari.

Highlighting some specific importance of the new policy document, Dambazau said it will help in facilitating the control of trans-humans movement, most especially within the West Africa region, the protection of the nation’s borders against trans- border crime, such as Trafficking in person.

Others are control and checkmating Drugs smuggling, movement of small and light weapons and preventing the infiltration of persons with terrorist tendencies into Nigeria.

“This document has sharpened the working documents of the Immigration Service to the extent that they can now collate a comprehensive data base of persons migrating in and out of the Country with a view to identifying the location of all foreigners” he said.

Commending President Muhammandu Buhari and the National Assembly for brining to fruition, the new document, General Dambazau said he is optimistic that the new regulations will improve Internal Security and ease the process of doing business in our dear Country, Nigeria.

The Director overseeing office of the Permanent Secretary, in the Ministry of Interior, Mr. Muhammadu Maccido and the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service Mr. Mohammed Babandede in separate speeches said they were convinced that the 2017 Immigration Regulations will help in creating the enabling environment for inflow of Direct Foreign Investments.
