Niger Delta Peace Dialogue: Delta Police Chief urges youths to shun violence; think development.

Following fresh threats by youth groups in the Niger Delta to resume attacks on economic assets of the federal government over certain alleged unfulfilled promises, a Niger Delta Peace Dialogue on Monday was held at the Petroleum Training Institute, Warri, Delta State.

Nine states from the South-South including Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Cross Rivers, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Ondo, Imo and Anambra participated in the dialogue.

Presenting a paper entitled ‘Niger Delta, Sustainable Development, Youth and Security’ to stakeholders at the peace dialogue, Delta State Police Commissioner, CP Ibrahim Muhammad Zanna who was represented by the ACP Operations, Peter Wabara harped on the importance and benefits of peace and stable environment for development to thrive.

According to Police confirmation, the meeting was attended by various youth leaders from the 9 states which had as its theme, “Peace Dialogue: A Tool for Niger Delta’s Sustainable Development”.

Notable Niger Delta personalities, Prof. Benjamin Okaba and Ms. Anko Briggs gave speeches at the parley.

The Delta State Police Command was particularly commended for partnering with conveners of the dialogue towards ensuring a hitch-free exercise.
