RE: PROTEST AS SOLDIERS ALLEGEDLY SHOT YOUNG MAN IN YENAGOA

The attention of 16 Brigade Nigerian Army has been drawn to a malicious publication on www.nationalhelm.com dated 21 February 2019.

In the said publication it was alleged that soldiers allegedly killed a young man at Biogbolo road in Yenagoa.

For the records, it is important to state that the publication was meant to malign the revered image and reputation of the Nigerian Army.

In the publication, It was wrongly alleged that soldiers unjustly killed a youth around Barath road.

The allegation by Frank that soldiers shot at them sporadically which led to the death of one youth and leaving several others injured was malicious and totally untrue.

While the Brigade doesn’t want to join issues with this medium, it is important to categorically state that no soldier was involved in any shooting saga in Yenagoa.

Consequently, it is important to state that as a professional army which has over time maintained a robust civil-military relations with the good people of Bayelsa state, it is therefore untoward that the online medium could attempt to malign this highly valued relationship.

The loss of human life is highly regrettable however, it is incumbent on the medium to cross check facts before filing their stories.

Additionally, the Brigade wishes to reiterate that it’s personnel are professionals who conduct operations in line with the extant Rules of Engagement and Code of Conduct as well as best global practices thereby respecting the rights of civilians at all times.

The Brigade wishes to reassure all the good people of Bayelsa state to go about their normal activities and report any suspicious person to security agencies.
