North East Rehabilitation: Defence Headquarters to Support Stabilization efforts with Quick Impact Projects.

The Defence Headquarters has commenced arrangements to intervene in the ongoing stabilization process to win the peace in the north east.

The armed forces headquarters gave the indication recently when a team led by the Chief of Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) at the Defence Headquarters, Rear Admiral Jonathan Ango paid a working visit to the Headquarters Operation Lafiya Dole in Maiduguri.

At meeting with the Theatre Commander and PSO’s, Rear Admiral Ango stated that the team was in the theatre to conduct a need assessment to identify areas where the Defence Headquarters could execute Quick Impact Projects to alleviate the suffering of the inhabitants.

He noted that the CDS, General Gabriel Abayomi Olonisakin had directed that in order to win the peace in the north east, it was pertinent to support the stabilization process with developmental projects that will put a smile on the faces of the victims of insurgency in the region.

Describing the initiative as a worthy cause, the Theatre Commander, Major General Lucky Irabor pointed out, that having won the kinetics of the fight against insurgency; the operation is currently dovetailing into the stabilization phase with emphasis tending towards developmental issues necessary to revitalize the region.

The Chief of Civil-Military Cooperation, Rear Admiral Zubairu Gambo, Air Commodore Oluwole Akinsanya and Brigadier General Martins Odior accompanied Rear Admiral Ango.

In a similar development, the Theatre Commander has reassured the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Agencies (OCHA) of the unflinching support of the Theatre Command Operation Lafiya Dole in ensuring that humanitarian agencies operating in the north east conduct their activities without fear or anxiety.

 Gen. Irabor made these comments while receiving the newly appointed Head of OCHA Nigeria, Mr. Juilian Hareis at the Headquarters of the Command in Maiduguri.

He noted that the Theatre Command is working in synergy with OCHA to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian services to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the north east, adding that it was vital to bring succour to the teeming population of IDPs affected by the insurgency in the region.

A statement by Col Onyema Nwachukwu, Deputy Director Army Public Relations quotes Mr. Juilian as expressing appreciation for the Command’s cooperation with OCHA in coordinating the operations of humanitarian Agencies in the region.
