Against the backdrop of intelligence findings that certain groups under unknown guises were being sponsored to cause trouble and disturb the peace of the federal capital city, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sadiq Abubakar Bello has warned miscreants, criminal elements and other unwanted persons to stay away from Abuja.
Addressing a stakeholders meeting at the Command headquarters, the Commissioner assured the people of Abuja of security noting that “Any criminal threatening to disturb the peace of Abuja on Independence Day should do a rethink and stay away because officers and men of the command have been mobilized to deal with such disturbances.
The CP said, “We are assuring all the residents of F.C.T of peace. We also want to warn the troublemakers to stay away from F.C.T because we mean business”.
Emphasizing on the need for peace during the Independence Day celebration, CP Bello who noted that he was aware of threats to disrupt Nigeria’s 57th Independence Day celebration in Abuja remarked that the purpose of the meeting was to ensure that every citizen in Abuja enjoys security during the October 1, 2017 Independence Day celebration.

Stakeholders at the meeting included the Religious leaders, Business leaders, residents association, senior police and Para-military security agencies, Youths representatives, Traders and Market Women association and traditional leaders from the major ethnic groups in FCT and so on.
CP Bello reminded the stakeholders that it is also their obligation to assist the police in ensuring that every individual in the Federal Capital Territory is safe and urged them to preach peace to the members of their association and also to remind them of the oneness of Nigerian.
In separate contribution, stakeholders asked for the police to look into black spots in their areas where criminals and drug dealers inhabit such as Karu graveyard, some parts of AMAC, Aco Estate, Sabo Lugbe and Wuye, stating that most of the criminals who are likely to carry out any attacks during the Independence Day celebration, leave in those places.
The stakeholders also voiced their support towards the movement for peace on Independence Day in F.C.T and promised to do their part.
The Representative of the Federal Road Safety Commission in a message, urged the citizens to drive carefully during the Independence Day celebration so as to prevent road accidents and loss of lives.
While urging citizens not be afraid of sending out relevant security related information to security agents, the Commissioner stated that we are one Nigeria, despite our different tribes and that we should be our brother’s keeper.
“We all agree that there must be peace in F.C.T, we should go out there and preach the message. We are all Nigerians despite the tribe. All of us are brothers and sisters, let’s be out brothers keepers”, he added.
