Offa Banks Robbery: Saraki Sends ADC to Get Police Invitation Letter; Protests Rocks Ilorin over Alleged Implication of Police Action.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, on Monday said he has asked his aide de camp (ADC) to obtain the letter of invitation by the Police to enable him visit the force.

He said this was to enable him to honour the “alleged invitation immediately.”

The Force Headquarters, Abuja, had, over the weekend, invited the senate president to come and respond to allegations by five of the suspects arrested over the April 2018 Offa bank robberies in which 30 persons, including nine policemen, died.

Taking to his verified Twitter handle on Monday, Saraki wrote, “I have just informed my ADC to get the letter of invitation from @PoliceNG in respect of the allegations raised yesterday — so that I can immediately honour the alleged invitation.”

Meanwhile protests rocked the city of Offa and Ilorin on Monday as scores of youths, market men, women, and other groups protested the invitation of the Senate president ,Dr Bukola Saraki by the Inspector General of police  over the Offa robbery attacks that left 9 policemen dead and over 30 people killed, alleging that the police authorities are politicizing the incident. 

Also, the Offa community  through High Chief Bayo Akinola, who spoke to the media on behalf of Olofa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II, who is on lesser hajj  said that the community

Has handed “what has happened to God, but we don’t want the innocent to be punished. We want police to go after the real culprits”. 

The market women, men and other groups besieged the palace of Olofa of Offa, while the same protests simultaneously took place in Ilorin as they complained against the politicization of the Offa robbery by the police authorities, warning that Dr Bukola Saraki should not be implicated. 

At the palace of Olofa of Offa, youths under the aegis of Youths Agitator’s Nationalism Forum carried such inscriptions like,  “We are one with Saraki in Offa”,  “Don’t politicize Offa robbery”, Baba IGP, this is too much for our leader”, Saraki is the leader in Kwara”, ” Offa robbery cannot be used to settle political point”. 

Addressing reporters, President of the forum, Mr. Peter Kayode said that, the current scenario over the police investigations of Offa robbery to allegedly implicate senate president, Dr. Bukola

Saraki was unacceptable and uncalled for adding that it was inconceivable that the Senate president could be linked with the armed robbery in Offa community being the first dignitary that paid a condolence visit to the community over the tragedy. 

He showed praises on Senator Bukola Saraki for the important roles he played to quickly facilitate the release of Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC ) to the community to beef up the security of the community against future occurrence.
