Offa Killings: Information Minister Vows All Suspects will be arrested; Condole Police over loss of 9 Officers.

Information Minister, Lai Mohammed on Sunday assured that those behind last Thursday’s armed robbery attacks and killings in commercial town of Offa, Kwara state would be arrested and brought to justice in order to serve as deterrent to others.

Recall that 9 police officers and scores of residents were killed while the over 2-hour robbery on five commercial banks and one micro finance bank lasted.

The minister who paid a condolence visit to the Kwara state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatai Ahmed in Ilorin also visited the people of Offa, and the told Olofa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi that the Federal government would continue to improve on its security provisions that would ensure adequate safety for all and sundry.

Mohammed said the condolence visits that the entire nation was ‘‘shocked and grieving’’ by the dastardly acts committed in Offa.

Urging Nigerians to learn  from ‘the mistakes’ of the incident, he said, “What happened in Offa on Thursday shocked the entire nation and is our prayers  that the souls of all the victims will rest in peace and also that those badly injured would be heeled and recover very soon.

“But there is also a silver light, despite the losses of the police, it is quite hearth warming to know that some of the suspects have been arrested.

‘‘I spoke yesterday with the IG and he assured me that all the people responsible for the dastardly act would be arrested and brought to justice.

During a condolence visit to the State Police headquarters urged the officers not to be demoralized by the gruesome killings of their colleagues by the armed bandits in Offa.               

Mohammed urged the police personnel to see incident as the hazard of the job noting that the federal government would continue to evolve strategies that would ensure the efficiency of all its security agencies. 

Responding, Kwara State Police Commissioner, Lawan Ado assured that minister that the officers would not be deterred by the killings of the officers. 

He noted that if there is anything, they are more resolute and emboldened more than ever before to fight crime and criminality in the state in the retaliation of the killings of their colleagues.
