Aftermath of the outbreak of the confrontation between Ogbe-Ijaw and Aladja communities on Friday, resulting in sporadic shooting and the pandemonium that followed, the Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS Delta deployed two naval gunboats and its Special Boat service operatives to the riverside scene.
Consequently, scores of fear-stricken women, children and the elderly who were fleeing the crisis were ferried to safety by the naval operatives who also assisted in bringing the situation to normalcy.
Confirming the deployments, Commanding Officer, NNS Delta, Commodore Ibrahim Dewu said, “On the 2nd of June 2017, at about 5.45pm, gunshots were heard from Ogbe-Ijoh community.
“After preliminary investigations, it was discovered that Aladja youths invaded Ogbe-Ijoh in the early hours of the day.
“At about 6.30pm, NNS Delta deployed 2 gunboats to beef up its location at ‘Over-side’ and rescue women and children trapped at the Ogbe Ijoh community”.

The Commander disclosed that as a result of the attack on Ogbe-Ijoh community, 2 persons were injured but added that the situation has been brought under control.
Dewu said the deployed team of SBS in the 2 gunboats will continue to patrol the creeks around the area noting that the Navy was working in conjunction with the 3 Battalion which deployed troops in conjunction with the Police and Airforce.
He confirmed that the 2 communities have agreed to ensure peace.
In another development, troops of the Nigerian Navy deployed to Ogulagha community in Forcados have succeeded in peacefully dispersing a protest action involving indigenes protesting the lack of power supply to the area.
Commodore Dewu said, “At about 6am on the 2nd of June 2017, youths of Ogulagha community commenced a peaceful protest at Forcados.
“The protest, which was taken to the SPDC Terminal gate over the lack of power supply in the community for the past 3 days, was amicable settled with assurance that the electricity in the Ogulagha will be temporarily restored today 3rd of June 2017.
