Oil Theft: NNS Delta nabs 3 suspected bunkerers.

Naval operatives of NNS Delta have arrested three suspects and recovered a massive Cotonou Boat loaded with 30, 000 liters of suspected stolen AGO from the Escravos channel.

According to Naval authorities, a patrol team led by Lt. AB Adamu deployed for ‘Operation Easter safe, arrested the suspects after an order to proceed from NNS Delta Commanding Officer, Commodore Ibrahim Dewu.

Giving details of the operation, Acting Director, Naval Information, Captain Suleiman Dahun said, “At about 1700 on 15 Apr 17, personnel of NNS Delta deployed for security duties at Chevron field, Meren Lat 05* 48 19.998’N, Long 005* 56 41.82’E, arrested a Cotonou boat having 5 metal tanks.

“The tanks were loaded with about 30,000ltrs of products suspected to be AGO.

“It was powered by 2 x 40hp outboard engines.

“At about 1830 on 15 Apr 17, own patrol team comprising of 2 gunboats led by Lt AB Adamu, deployed for Op Easter Safe,  was directed to proceed to Escravos to escort the boat to Base.

 “With the help of FOB Escravos and NNS Dorina, at about 0100, 17 Apr 17, the boat was brought in from sea to Escravos channel.

“At about 1120 on 17 Apr 17, the patrol team arrived NNS Delta with the boat.

“Three crew members, Mr. Anthony Olowofoyekun, Mr. Awolowo Omotehinse and Mr. Silver Fagbeyi were detained by the Naval Police for further investigation.”
