Operation Purge: Akwa Ibom Police Arrest 104 Suspected Criminals, Charge 15 Kidnappers and 20 Cultists to court.

The Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom, CP Zubairu Muazu has disclosed that the past two months in Akwa Ibom has been eventful and peaceful with the launching of ‘Operation Purge’ at Ukanafun and Etim Ekpo.

CP Muazu said that as a result of the operation which also involved people oriented and intelligence led policing, visibility policing and so on, the Command arrested 15 Kidnappers and 20 Cultists who were charged to court.

The CP said that the decision to temporarily relocate the Operation Base of the Special Anti-kidnapping and Anti-cultism units in identified flashpoints in Ukanafu, Etim Ekpo and Onna was what resulted in the apprehension of the kidnaping and cultism suspects.

He further said that due to the efforts put in by the police in the state, the state witnessed a peaceful Political Party’s Primary election.

He said that the cases of armed robbery, Kidnapping, Cultism, Child stealing/selling, rape and other heinous crimes were tackled head-on with the help of the people of Akwa Ibom State.

“Due to this operation, a total of 104 suspects were arrested for various offences across the state and most of the suspects have been charged to court while the others are under investigation.

“Two AK 47 rifles with three magazines and 18 rounds of live ammunition were recovered as well as one assault rifle, two pump action guns, one berretta pistol, 8 locally made pistols with 12 live cartridges, one Toyota Avalon car, one Lexus jeep, one Toyota corolla and a Toyota Camry were recovered.

The sum of N2.8million was also recovered.

Also two locally made pistols were recovered when the Anti-kidnapping team arrested four kidnappers at Etim Ekpo and arrested the notorious gang responsible for series of Bank related robberies in the State.

CP Muazu said, “It was indeed a battle fought and won with the support of the good people of Akwa Ibom State”.

 The commissioner commended the Government and the people of Akwa Ibom for their support to the Nigerian Police which helped in the reduction of crime to the barest minimum adding, “Together we can continue to make Akwa Ibom safe again.”
