Ops Puff Adder: Borno Police nab 68 for kidnapping, terrorism/armed robbery

In furtherance of the directive Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu to eliminate crime and criminality across the country and the ongoing Operation Puff Adder, the Borno state police command has arrested 68 suspects for various crimes.

Parading the suspects,at the Police headquarters. Maiduguri on Friday the Borno state commissioner of Police, Mohammed Nadatsu Aliyu said the 68 suspects were arrested for various crimes ranging from Kidnapping, terrorism, theft, Armed robbery, fraudster, car snatching, culpable homicide among others.

“ACT OF TERRORISM (SARS):

On 1/6/2019 at about 1000hrs, one Ali Ibrahim a notorious member of the Boko Haram sect who participated in several, attacks on security locations in Nigeria and Cameroon Republic was arrested by the police at Dikwa low-cost Maiduguri.

Suspect during investigation, confessed to have followed his members in many attacks on security locations and carted away their weapons.

He claimed to have escaped from one of their camps in Cameroon republic after denouncing membership., the CP said.

CP Aliyu said, similarly one Umar Abatcha who is also a notorious member of the Boko Haram sect who later escaped to Lagos and subsequently returned to Maiduguri was arrested at Bulabulin by the police on sighting him.

Suspect on interrogation confessed membership and claimed that he returned to Maiduguri thinking that nobody will recognise him again.”

He further stated thst “on 13/6/2019 and 19/6/2019, one (1) are notorious in going to the bush to buy cattle from members of the Boko Haram sect who robbed or stole them from innocent members of the public were busted by SARS operatives.

One female cow and two calves bought from the Boko Haram members were recovered from them. Investigation towards arresting their colleagues in crime is being intensified.”..

On suspected kidnapers the CP said “Between 9/6/2019 and 13/6/2019 the following persons were arrested at Shani General Area by combine teams of Policemen from SARS and Divisional Headquarters, Shani for Terrorising innocent members of the public at the Shani axis through series of kidnapping. Investigation towards ascertaining their culpability is being investigated. ”

According to the Cp, the suspected kidnappers are Adamu Saidu, Adamu Isa, Ka’ana Buba, Hiba Adamu, Dago Grema, Ngura Saidu, Bello Jungudo, Bayo Adam and Ilu Hassan.

“On 9/5/2019 at about 0300hrs, one
Musa Bello and Mustapha Shettima both of Maiduguri metropolis who have severally robbed many people in the Maiduguri metropolis and evaded arrest were arrested by SARS operations after attempting to Rob one Mohammed Ibrahim of Shuwari II Maiduguri of his handset while armed with dangerous weapons,” the police boss said.

While speaking on possession of illegal arms, Mr Nadatsu said “On 8/6/2019 at about 1100hrs, a case of being in-possession of fire arms was transferred from Divisional Police Headquarters UBA to this department.

That on 3/6/2019 at about 1130hrs, one Yohanna Ijai ‘m’ a member of vigilante group attached to Dille village in Askira UBA L.G.A was on his way to Dille village from Taban village in Askira with 2 AK-47 locally made rifle with eight live cartridge which was packed inside a sack bag being conveyed on motor cycle Bajaj to Dille.

On the process of repairing the motor cycle was intercepted by some police men on duty who conducted a search on him and found the firearms where he hid them, Case presently under investigation.
