Ops Thunder Strike: Troops Kill armed bandits/kidnappers along Abuja-Kaduna highway.

Following the directive by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai to troops to ensure safety of travelers along notorious highways like Abuja – Kaduna express, troops of Sector 5, of 1Division Nigerian Army, on Operation Thunder Strike, at about 11:45 pm , on Wednesday 17 July 2019 , had an encounter with armed bandits along Abuja-Kaduna road.

The bandits who dressed in military uniform, mounted a road block between Olam Farms and Alheri Camp along the busy highway to kidnap and rob unsuspecting commuters.

Following credible information, troops quickly moved to the scene of the road block, engaged and neutralised 2 bandits. Several others escaped into the bush.

The soldiers also recovered 2 Dane guns from the bandits.

The troops are currently searching the general area to apprehend other members of the gang and their accomplices.

The General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Faruk Yahaya while commending the troops on the overwhelming success so far achieved in the operation charged them to continue to dominate their Area of Operational Responsibility.

He tasked them to maintain aggressive posture, until banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities no longer pose any problem to Nigerians.

The GOC vowed that he would do everything possible to safeguard commuters on Abuja- Kaduna highway and other roads within 1 Division Area of Operational Responsibility.

He further warned bandits and other criminal elements to either surrender or face the consequences of their action.

Furthermore, he urged the general public to continue to provide credible information that would assist troops to prevent criminal activities in their area.
