PDP Gives Makarfi 4 months extension, Sacks 7 States Excos.

The Ahmed Makarfi led PDP National Caretaker Committee has been given additional four months lifeline to reorganize and strengthen the party going by the decision of the Non-elective National Convention of the opposition party, held in Abuja on Saturday.

Party members voted overwhelmingly for extension of the tenure of the Caretaker Committee at the convention, which held at the Eagles Square with estimated 5000 members in attendance.

The PDP resolved to hold the convention as part of measures to reorganize after obtaining victory at Supreme Court through a judgment that reaffirmed Senator Ahmed Makarfi as the Caretaker Committee Chairman.

The Supreme Court by the judgment neutralized the leadership of Ali Sheriff, which for several months set the opposition party in disarray.

Former governor of Akwa Ibom state, Godswill Akpabio had conducted a voice vote, which approved the four months extension of tenure for the Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee of the party.

According to him, the extension handed to the Caretaker Committee is to equip it with time to organize a substantive national convention to elect new set of executive for the party at the federal level.

Also at the convention, the PDP dissolved the executive committees of its party in 7 states of Adamawa, Borno, Kebbi, Kwara, Lagos, Ogun and Osun States.

The dissolution of executives, according to party leaders was a fall out of the crises be-deviling the party in the affected states in which case, parallel and conflicting organs had been at play.

The National Convention in addition, mandated the Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee to set up caretaker Committees which in turn would conduct states and local government congresses in the 7 states by the party’s mandate.

The PDP, however, ratified the results of the Congresses, which successfully held across the states of the federation between May and March in the previous year

Former President Goodluck Jonathan, his former Deputy Namadi Sambo, Chairman of the 2017 Special Non-Elective National Convention Planning Committee, Sen. Arthur I. Okowa, former Governor of Akwa Ibom state and Senate Minority Leader, Chief Godswill Akpabio and Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT), Sen. Walid Jubril were in attendance.

Others include Governors Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose, River state, Chief Nyesom Wike, Akwa Ibom, Emmanuel Udum, Taraba state, Arc. Darius Ishaku, Gombe state, Dr. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwanbo.

Also in attendance were Deputy Governor of Bayelsa state, Rear Admiral, John Jonah, Deputy Governor of Cross River state, Professor Ivara Esu, Deputy Governor of Ebonyi state, Dr. Eric Kelechi Igwe, former Governors, National Vice Chairmen, State Chairmen, Party stalwarts and other leaders of the PDP nationwide.
