Personnel Welfare: NAF Commissions New Accommodation at Warri & Yenagoa Bases

In a renewed commitment at improving the welfare of its personnel for effective and efficient service delivery, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) yesterday commissioned a block of 6 flats of 2 bedrooms each at NAF Base Yenagoa.

The new residential quarters would address the current accommodation challenge being faced by Principal Staff Officers of Headquarters Mobility Command.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Yenagoa, the Special Guest, Air Vice Marshal Emmanuel Edem (Retired) stated that it was highly commendable for the NAF to put up such a befitting structure for its personnel in spite of dwindling resources.

He said it was an attestation of visionary and prudent management of resources by the current NAF leadership.

“It is very clear that the Chief of Air staff (CAS) in the face of daunting challenges and scarce resources has shown sufficient commitment to the welfare of NAF personnel”.

In his remarks, the CAS, represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal James Gbum, disclosed that the project and other similar projects were carried out through direct labour.

“This approach had not only saved the NAF much needed resources but had also improved the technical capacity of Works personnel” he said.

The CAS also noted the multiplier effects of a conducive working and living environment on serviceability rate of platforms and the training of aircrew could not be overemphasized.

In a related development, a 4 Single Officers’ Quarters (SOQ) and a block of 10 one-bedroom flats for airmen/airwomen were also commissioned at 371 Forward Operations Base Warri.

The new blocks of residential accommodation were commissioned by His Royal Highness, Avwaeke 1 Ovie of Umiagwa Abraka Kingdom, Air Vice Marshal Lucky Ararile (Retired), who was the Special Guest of Honour at the event.

In his remarks, Ararile commended the efforts of the NAF in adding aesthetic value to the landscape in Warri area, with its increasing presence.

The Special Guest also thanked NAF personnel for their sacrifice towards defending the territorial integrity of Nigeria.

He urged them to remain loyal, dedicated and professional in the course of undertaking their assignments.

The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of keys to some beneficiaries.
