Police arrest 6-man robbery syndicate; murderers ofPolice Officer.

The Police in Abuja have smashed a notorious 6-man armed robbery syndicate that specializes in inflicting serious injury on their victims and even killing some of the victims after dispossessing them of their valuables including cash and phones.

Commissioner of Police, FCT, Muhammad Mustafa, who made the disclosure on Thursday, said that notorious gang was responsible for the death of a Police who unknowingly entered the unpainted taxi they were operating, as a passenger, only to be robbed and killed.

Mustafa said, “The syndicate which operates in an unpainted taxi is responsible for the gruesome murder of a Police Corporal who was robbed of his two phones, GOTV, Cash and other valuables before he was stabbed severally on the chest by a member of the gang, identified as Saliu Saka on 29th December 2016 after the deceased boarded their vehicle as a passenger.

The CP added that the ‘The dagger used in stabbing the deceased police officer has been recovered. All six suspects arrested have confessed to the crime and will be charged to court on conclusion of investigation”.

Noting that the syndicate operate the unpainted taxi and shuttle either from Berger to Airport Road or Area 1 to Gwagwalada in search of passengers who turn out to be their victims, the CP said, “They take advantage of the evening rush hours, when people are rushing to get to their homes, to lure the unsuspecting victims. They operate mostly at nights with sharp knives and sometimes toy gun”.     

CP Mustafa consequently disclosed that the milestone it recorded in the arrest of the dare-devil armed robbers who killed the Police Corporal in cold blood should serve as as a note of warning to other notorious criminals that specialize in attacking police personnel, security agents and innocent citizens, that the command is prepared to deploy its investigative prowess massively to deal with their excesses and ensure criminal elements do not evade justice.

Members of the 6-man gang who were paraded before newsmen are Ismaila Abduwaheed, Saliu Saka, Kayode Olusegun, Sunday Odo, John Paul and Ifeanyi Peter. Exhibits recovered from them include one blue coloured Golf car registered KWL 421 TC, three knives, one Nokia Handset belonging to the deceased police officer.
