Police Arrest 2,726 Suspects for Kidnapping, Car Snatching, Gun Running; Rescues 207 Kidnap Victims in One Month

The Police headquarters on Friday disclosed that its operatives of the Special Tactical Squad, STS, IRT and Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism Squads in Commands arrested a total of 2,726 suspects for kidnapping, car snatching, gun running and cultism among others in the last one month.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi made this known during the parade of criminal elements in Abuja noting that the action underscores the Police Force’s relentless efforts to combat crime and bring perpetrators to justice.

The Force PRO said, One of the significant cases is that of one Hauwa Yusuf 30 years of Dutsin-Ma LGA of Katsina State, who was intercepted while in transit from Lafia, Nasarawa State to Katsina State, inside a Sienna Bus along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.

“Upon interception, a search was conducted and one AK-47 Rifle without breach Number and Four AK magazines concealed inside a white Sack of Garri were recovered from the suspect.

“During the interrogation, the Suspect confessed that it was One Aminu Basullube, a notorious Bandit terrorizing Katsina State general axis who sent her to take delivery of the arms in Danum Madam Camp, Katsina State.”

Answering questions from the media, Yusuf said she didn’t know a gun was concealed in the sack of garri

She confessed that Aminu Basullube, sent her to take delivery of the arms in the Danum Madam Camp, area of the state and gave her N130,000 for transport, though the actual transport fare is N15,000

“I never knew that it was an AK 47 gun that was inside. They asked me to go and bring millet. Unfortunately, they did not bring millet but brought Gari for me. Even when I saw the thing, I was apprehensive. I made a mistake by not asking questions

Adejobi also said the police arrested a cattle rustler cum kidnapper Musa Saidu after he was reported of engaging in a sudden lavish lifestyle including buying 12 cows at a go and a motorcycle at a cost of over N5milliilon in his community knew he was nit a rich man.

He said that he became a cattle rustler after he fell victim to other rustlers adding that he was arrested after he travelled back home to enjoy the proceeds of his crime.

He said, “I went to Oyo because there were too many problems in Kaduna. I had my cattle but they were rustled. I know cattle rustling is a crime but I did it because of what was done to me. After I made money, I stopped and went back to the village to spend my money.

The Force PRO said, “Following intelligence, operatives attached to the FID-STS left for Igbowo in Oyo state to investigate the activities of Musa Saidu on April 29.

“The investigations revealed that the suspect had left his community for 5 years and was doing menial jobs in Oyo state.

“Upon his return back to his community in Kigakwu, Kaduna state after his disappearance, he started spending money extravagantly, buying different brands of new motorcycles (BAJAJ) and twelve (12) cows in a day amounting to the sum of N5million.

“He confessed during interrogation to being a kidnapper operating under the leadership of one Haruna in Birnin Gwari forest of Kaduna State. He said in his operations under the gang Commander Haruna he was using AK 47 rifles.

Saidu said, “Twenty-five (25) cows were given to him as his proceed of his criminal activities and that he sold the cows in Kaduna State, at the rate of N4,700,000. and it was the money he used in buying the Bajaj motorcycles and twelve cows, ten female, two male in Igboho Oyo State.
