Police Commission Clears Senator Hamman Misau of Forgery Allegation; Says his Retirement followed due process, was approved by Commission.

The Police Service Commission on Wednesday submitted that embattled Chairman, Senate Committee on Navy, Senator Isah Hamman Misau was appropriately retired from the Nigerian Police Force on his application.

According to the Head of Public Relations and Information of the Commission, the Justice Olufunlola Adekeye investigations Committee set up by the Chairman of PSC, Sir Mike Mbama Okiro, discovered from documents available that Senator Misau retired pointing out that the delay in the date of letter was due to the long processes.

While noting that approval for Misau’s retirement was recommended from Force headquarters, Ani said, the matter has now been cleared despite the fact that the Senator failed to appear before the investigation committee.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris had alleged that the Senator was a deserter adding that his retirement letter from the Force was forged.

This was however disputed by the Senator who accused the IGP of collecting bribes from some officers before they were promoted

The Police Service Commission said the letter was not forged and that the Senator’s retirement from the Force followed due process adding that the letter of retirement was issued to the Senator by the commission.

Though the Senator who was expected to appear at 11am  and failed to show up, the Commission said it went ahead with the meeting and found out that his retirement letter was authentic and was done based on recommendation from the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking on telephone, Ikechukwu said, “The Senator did not honour the invitation but the panel still went ahead to sit. At the meeting, the Panel made some inquiry, checked through documents and confirmed that the Commission issued the letter and that it was based on recommendation for retirement from the Force Headquarters.

“The Police normally recommend people to us for retirement, so the recommendation came to the Commission and Misau’s name was included.

“It is true; we have confirmed that the retirement followed due process. The letter was dated 5th March, 2014 to take effect from the 1st of December 2010.

“The Commission has gone through their document and confirmed that we issued the letter with reference number; PSC/1034/V8/244.  What are saying is that we gave him the letter of retirement.”
