Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, on Tuesday disclosed that the many challenges faced by the Nigerian Police in handling insecurity in the country paved the way for other security agencies especially the military to be drafted into internal security operations.
The IGP who was represented by the Deputy Inspector General in charge of Administration, DIG Shuaibu Gambo, made the disclosure when he received the members of Group 6 of Senior Executive Course 40 of National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS at Force headquarters.

Emphasizing that provision of  internal security is the primary function and of utmost importance to the police, Idris said the police had limitations in tackling the emerging internal security challenges.
He said it was the place of the service to single-handedly police the country within adding that, “Nigeria Police Force is in the forefront when it comes to internal security. Any nation faced with internal security problem cannot achieve the desired development needs of its people
The IGP however regretted that other security agencies had become visible in internal security due largely to logisticcs, operational and mampower challenges militating against the operations of the police.
