Police Hand over Man who Attempted Suicide in Abuja to FCT SDS for Mental Evaluation.

The Police in Abuja on Tuesday sent Shuaibu Alhaji Yushau, the man who climbed Aso Radio Mast in Abuja and attempted to commit suicide to the Social Development Secretariat (SDS) for mental assessment and evaluation.

It said the action followed “his rather troubling action, which caused apprehension in the populace on Monday, July 8, 2024, by climbing a high broadband mast at ASO Radio in Katampe, Abuja, and attempting to take his own life”.

“The suspect, if found to be mentally stable after the test, will be charged in court for attempted suicide, disturbance of public peace, and incitement contrary to sections 231, 111, and 114 of the Penal Code Act.

“The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth Igweh urges residents to be law-abiding while pushing for their voices to be heard, as the police will not be stampeded into allowing the breakdown of law and order”.

Recall that the FCT Police Command said on Monday that it has arrested a man who climbed the Aso Radio mast in Abuja and attempted to commit suicide over the present harsh situation in the country

Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Josephine Adeh had i a statement, said, “Following a distress call from concerned citizens about a young man who climbed a very high mast with a placard at ASO Radio in Katampe at about 9.10 am, the operatives of the FCT Police Command swiftly mobilized to the location.

“With much professional persuasions from the police operatives, the man later identified as Shuaibu Alhaji Yushau was prevented from taking his own life.

“He claimed to have been observing the mast for about a week before deciding to climb it.

“Suspect is presently in police custody and in a stable condition. Further development will be communicated in due course
