Police in Delta launch manhunt for kidnappers of Mother of 2 kids; arrest engine boat robbers; recover stolen vehicle as hoodlums jump into bush.

Following the abduction on Sunday, of a mother, Tejiri Ekokifo and dumping of her two school children out of her car by a kidnap gang at Effurun, Warri, the Delta State Police Commissioner, CP Ibrahim Zanna has ordered a manhunt for the kidnappers and the rescue of the mother.

Giving details of how Mrs. Ekokifo was abducted, the police said, “On Sunday 23rd July 2017, at about 12pm, one Gladys Oboyemu of Onodi Close, off Onokevwe street Uti road, Effurun reported at Ebrumede division, that her daughter named Tejiri Ekokifo has been kidnapped.

She said her daughter drove a Toyota Corolla reg. no EFR 32JB and was carrying her two children. She was about driving into her compound at the above address when a Tricycle with registration not known, carrying 3 armed men blocked her car.

The armed men forcefully dragged her out and put her at the back seat, then dropped her 2 children and drove to an unknown destination.

The scene was visited by a team of detectives and patrol teams were deployed who gave the kidnappers a hot chase to Usiefun/Ekakpamre town under Otujeremi.

Following combined efforts with the vigilante of the said community, the hoodlums abandoned the vehicle and ran into the bush.

Two cut to size locally made single barrel gun and 2 live cartridges were recovered and efforts are in progress to get the victim rescued and the kidnappers arrested.

Also, the police said 2 kidnappers, one from Taraba state and another from Niger State who had been members of a gang terrorizing Amoji and Ossissa communities in Delta State have been arrested.

The Police said, “On Sunday 23rd July 2017, at about 5pm, based on a tip-off, one Tahiru Sule, 25 yrs from Taraba state and Abu Sanni, aged 20yrs from Minna, Niger state were arrested.

“Upon a search conducted on them, several Sim cards were found reasonably believed to be used for their nefarious activities.

“One Langari Ibrahim aged 33yrs who is a herdsman confirmed that they are the bad elements within the Fulani terrorizing Amoji/Ossissa axis”.

On the arrest of armed robbers, Delta state SARS said, “On Sunday 23rd July 2017, at about 6.45pm,  SARS operatives acting on a tip-off arrested one Amaechi Ndoji aged 35yrs of Ifeanyi Estate, Okwe, Asaba and one Abraham Egwu aged 55yrs of no. 3 Eden Street, Calabar.

“Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed that they specialize in robbing Engine Boats from Water fronts.

They said they have so far robbed three (3) engine boats and sold to receivers in Calabar.

The most recent one was on Thursday 2oth July 2017, in Asaba, belonging to one Afam Ani of Oko Ogbene, Okwe Asaba who was contacted immediately and he confirmed the story of being robbed.

Furthermore, the Delta Command at the weekend recovered a snatched vehicle from hoodlums in Warri.

The Police said, “At about 6pm, a Safer Highways Patrol team 015 stationed at DSC roundabout, Warri, while on Stop and Search along Otokutu road, were alerted by one Paul Egbodi of no. 20 Dugbo Lane, Enerhen, that his Toyota Camry with reg. no. BEN 346 AQ, brown in colour was snatched from him at gun point, was seen along Owvian road.

The team swung into action, gave the hoodlums a hot chase and having discovered that the patrol team were after them, the hoodlums jumped into the bush and abandoned the Toyota Camry car.
