Police nab 14 Deadly Kidnappers/Armed Robbers for killing Dr. Ibrahim Mailafia & terrorizing Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Expressway

The Police from Force headquarters comprising operatives of Intelligence Response Team and Technical Intelligence Unit have arrested 14 deadly kidnappers and armed robbers terrorizing the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway.

The deadly gang had been responsible for the kidnapping and killing of many travelers including the gruesome murder of Dr Ibrahim Mailafia PhD, a Senior lecturer with the Nasarawa State University Lafia.

Following the arrest of the gang, the police recovered 2AK47 rifles, pistol and the victim’s iPhone.

A police statement giving details said, “The arrest is due to follow up on the gruesome murder of Dr Ibrahim Mailafia on 3rd November 2017 between Kaduna-Zaria- Kano expressway by deadly kidnappers/armed robbers, while on his way to Kano to visit his Family after obtaining a doctorate degree on Artificial intelligence from United Kingdom.

It said, “Technical Intelligence was generated from TIU about the murderers/kidnappers responsible for the dastardly act who are equally terrorizing motorist along Niger-Abuja and Kaduna-Zaria-Kano expressways.

“Special Team of the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team IRT in an unrelenting follow up eventually arrested 14 confirmed members of the kidnapping and armed robbery syndicate including the receivers of their robbed cars.

“Suspects arrested Includes Sunday Jatau 35yrs Native of Kaduna State, the leader of the gang who confessed to have personally shot and killed Dr Mailafia.

“Others are Solomon Jatau 40yrs brother to the gang leader, Ayuba Jatau 32yrs also younger brother to the Gang leader, Ishaku Luka aka Dogo who sells arms and ammunitions to the gang, 42yrs native of Kujama LGA Kaduna, Bature Adamu 38yrs and Bello Abdullahi 32yrs.

“More gang members are Mamuda Mohammed 27yrs, Ibrahim Daniel 27yrs native of Chad Republic who was found in possession of the late Dr Mailafia’s phones, Emmanuel Garba 27yrs native of Ekot-Epene in Akwa Ibom State.

“The receiver of stolen goods from the deadly gang are Alhaji Usman Mohammed 35yrs, Alhaji Ibrahim Baba 49yrs, Bello Aliyu 36yrs, Surajo Mohammed 35yrs and Hassan Ibrahim 55yrs.

“They were all arrested in Kaduna and Zaria respectively and the suspects confessed to several armed robberies, kidnappings and murders within the highways of Kaduna, Kano and Niger States.

“Exhibits recovered from the gang include 2 AK-47 rifles loaded with ammunitions, 1 Beretta pistol and several robbed vehicles and phones including the iPhone of late Dr. Mailafia.

“The Police said serious efforts to arrest more gang members and recover the remaining operational weapons are in progress.”
