The Police in Abuja on Thursday paraded three members of a notorious Kidnapping syndicate who had been linked to kidnapping for ransom and violent crimes along Kaduna-Abuja road and its environs.

 

The arrest of three members of the kidnap gang, followed a coordinated and painstaking investigation by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the IGP’s monitoring unit after they abducted Hon. Sani Bello, a member of the house of representatives and extorted the sum of N10million as ransom.

 

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Donald Awunah, the suspects, Haruna Adamu, Shuaibu Adamu and Abubakar Saidu, are members of a six-man gang and the sum of N250, 000 which is part of the ransom paid to one of the suspect, was recovered bag which was buried in the ground and marked as exhibit.

 

The FPRO said, “These dare devil gangsters kidnapped of Hon Sani Bello, a current member the House of Representatives, on 2nd August 2016 in his farm along Kaduna –Abuja road. Also, the Kidnap of other persons’ was traced to them.

 

“The suspects were trailed and rounded up at Ungwan Kawu village in Dan Dumi L.G.A in Katsina State.

 

“During interrogation, the suspects voluntarily confessed to the commission of the offence and also admitted to the various roles individually and collectively played in their criminal enterprise.

 

“One of the suspects, Shaibu Adamu led operatives to a location in the nearby village (Kawu village) where he buried part of the ransom money.  The sum of N250, 000.00 in a polythene bag was recovered and marked as exhibit.

 

“The arrested suspects are assisting the Police to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang. The suspects will soon be arraigned in court for justice to take its course.

 

Asked how much the gang collected as ransom from the House of reps member, one of the suspect said N10million adding that two of them were given N3million as their share while three others who ran into the bush on the day of arrest also got their share.

 

The suspect said they had sponsors noting that one Jagba and Hassan came to them and recruited them for the job by telling them that a victim should be abducted since they didn’t know who the person is.

 

DCP Awunah however gave the assurance of the Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris to Nigerians that the Police will not relent in its commitment and determination to ensure that criminal element and their collaborators will have their day in court to face the wrath of the law.  

 

 

He added that members of the public must see law enforcement as a collective responsibility of all and sundry, and avail the Police credible information and assistance.
