Police Officer Killed, another hit by stray bullet in Foiled Armed Robbery Attack at Home of Former IGP, Ibrahim Coomasie.

Katsina State Police Command on Saturday foiled at attempted by suspected armd robbers to attack the home of the Chairman, Arewa Consultative Forum and former Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Coomasie.

However, a Police Sergeant was killed in the ensuing shoot-out while a Corporal was hit by a stray bullet during the encounter.

A statement by signed by DSP Gambo Isah, on brhalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Gwana said, “Today (Saturday) being 14/10/2017 at about 8pm, two armed hoodlums riding on a motorbike attacked mobile policemen posted on guard duty at the residence of former IGP Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmadu Coomasie, the Sardaunan Katsina and Chairman Arewa Consultative Forum.

“The hoodlums met a stiff resistance from the mobile policemen who prevented from getting access into the residence.

 “However, during the gun duel one Force Number 264505 Sgt Musa Ibrahim attached to 27 police mobile squadron, Katsina, paid the supreme sacrifice and gallantly lost his life during the encounter. 

“Police patrols teams led by the Commissioner of police, CP BD Gwana  arrived at the scene but the hoodlums have already escaped through the dark alleys. 

“A stray bullet also met one Force Number 270124 Cpl Shitu Maikudi attached to 27 police mobile squadron on his leg, who was coming out of the residence in mufti.

“He was rushed to General Hospital Katsina for treatment.

 “Eighteen (18) empty shells of expended ammunition were recovered at the scene.

 The Command is assiduously making efforts to arrest the fleeing hoodlums and recover their operational arms.

 “Citizens are hereby assured to go about their lawful business without any fear as the command is on top of the situation.

 Meanwhile, CP Gwana in his maiden press briefing with newsmen in Katsina, since assumption of office promised that the Katsina State Command will continue to deliver on its mandate of protecting the lives and property of the people of the state.

 He said the Command has been achieving results in the fight against crime due to the cooperation of well-meaning people in the state even as solicited such synergy should be sustained. 

 Giving details of criminal activities smashed by the command, Gwana said, the command arrested cattle rustlers and recovered 37O Cows, 24 Sheeps, 2 AK 47 Rifles, and 1 Pump Action Rifle.

 “The Command in partnership with local vigilante groups, succeed in various mop up operations against cattle rustlers at Sabuwa, Safana, Batsari and Danmusa Local governments areas and arrested the following suspected cattle rustlers:

1. Shuaibu Iliya ‘m’ aged 28yrs of Likimo Fulani settlement, Danmusa LGA Katsina state – arrested in Safana
2. Sani Abubakar ‘m’ aged 25yrs of safana katsia state – arrested in Safana
3. Abubakar Hussaini alias “KIRI” ‘m’ aged 25yrs of Danmusa LGA Katsina state – Arrested at Danmusa
4. Sada Alti ‘m’ aged 20yrs of Danmusa LGA Katsina state – Arrested at Danmusa

Exhibits Recovered include   313 Cows, 24 Sheeps, 2 AK 47 rifles, one pump action all recovered at Sabuwa LGA Katsina state, 57 Cows recovered at Batsari LGA Katsina state

 Furthermore, the command is assiduously working round the clock to ensure discreet and thorough investigations of all suspects arrested.  Efforts are also being intensified to apprehend the rests of the fleeing suspects and to recover their operational arms.

 ARREST OF SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER:

On 09/10/2017 at about 18:00hrs, the Command also succeeded and arrested one Sahalu Bello ‘m’ aged 30yrs of Maitandama village Bakori LGA, Katsina, a member of a four man kidnapping syndicate that attacked a Filling station at Marabar Kankara along Funtua road, Katsina and kidnapped the Manager one Kamal Ibrahim ‘m’ aged 30yrs of the same address.

However, police patrol team led by the DPO immediately responded and gave the hoodlums a hot chase, up to Kabomo village, Bakori LGA Katsina state where the victim was rescued unhurt.

 The said Sahalu Bello was arrested while the rests took to their heels and escaped into the forest.  Efforts are being intensified with a view to apprehend the rests of the fleeing suspects.

 ARREST/SMASHING OF FAKE KIDNAPPING SYNDICATE

On 28/09/2017 at about 2215hrs, the command succeeded and smashed a fake kidnapping syndicate.  One Mustapha Suleiman ‘m’ of Kaura Bugaje village, Jibia, Katsina reported at Central Police Station, Katsina, that his nephew one Kabir Iliyasu aged 27yrs of the same address who left home since in the morning but later at about 20:15hrs, he received a phone call that, he was missing and his motorcycle was found abandoned at Kaura Bugaje Junction Jibia Katsina. 

However, on 29/09/2017 at about 17:59hrs, the said, Mustapha Suleiman received a text message from GSM No. 08030412199 stating that, his nephew Kabir Iliyasu has been kidnapped directing him to pay the sum of N1 million Naira as ransom before his release.  

The Command conducted investigation and negotiated with the so called kidnappers who then asked the mediator to deposit the ransom along Ring road behind A. A. Rahamawa Filing station Katsina inside an uncompleted building.

Victim was later dropped unconsciously and abandoned along Batsari road Katsina where he was rushed to Orthopedic Hospital Katsina for treatment.

Furthermore, investigation led to the arrest of one Amina Idris ‘f’ of Rahamawa qrts, Katsina whose phone was used in perpetrating the crime which also led to the arrest of the following suspects: 

1. Aminu Abdullahi ‘m’ aged 19yrs of Rahamawa qrts, Katsina
2. Abdullahi Bature ‘m’ aged 23yrs of Rahamawa qrts, Katsina

During interrogation suspects confessed to the crime and stated that, the victim Kabir Iliyasu was the one that organized and masterminded his own Kidnapping because he needed money from his uncle.  Also a chemist one Nura Abdullahi ‘m’ aged 19yrs of the same address was arrested in connection with the case.
