Recruitment: PSC to consider candidates on reserve list/specialists for interview.

The Police Service Commission said on Thursday that applicants into the Nigeria Police Force who were placed on the reserve list after the completion of the selection exercise in December 2016 are still being considered for recruitment.

Similarly, the commission said that candidates in the Specialists Cadre scheduled for interview before their final selection will be invited for interview at the appropriate time.

A statement by Ikechukwu Ani, spokesman for the commission said, “This clarification is coming in the wake of the fact that the 2016 successful candidates are already in various Police training schools.

“The applicants on the reserve list will be considered in line with available vacancies from the Training Colleges.

Ani said, “The Commission is awaiting reports from the Police Staff College, Jos, Plateau State, and the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos, where candidates for ASPs and Inspectors respectively, are currently undergoing training.

“The reports from these Training Colleges are expected to contain the status of the trainees, State by State, after the required screening at the Colleges which include medical examination.

“Established vacancies will be filled from the short-listed reserve list from the states where they occur based strictly on their placement on the reserve list.

“For Specialists shortlisted for interview, the Commission had scheduled to conduct their interviews on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of December last year until it received letters from professional bodies questioning qualifications of some  candidates on the list.

“The letters came from the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria and signed by Alhaji Toyosi Y. Raheem, President and Dr. Sura Junaid, National Secretary and Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria signed by Erhabor Tosan, acting Registrar/CEO.

“The Bodies said the profession was a regulated one and that those to be employed must be registered and licensed.

“In order to meet the 2016 recruitment schedule and resolve issues raised by the professional bodies, the Commission decided to suspend the interview and allow the selected candidates in both General duty
and Specialists to proceed on training which commenced December 31st, 2016.
“Candidates scheduled for interview will be invited along with candidates for the 2017 recruitment exercise after resolution of the issues raised by the professional bodies.

Continuing Ani said, “For the avoidance of doubt, anybody smuggled into the Colleges from outside the approved list will be fished out and punished when the Commission’s Staff visit the Colleges for the distribution of appointment letters.

“The Commission is poised to protect the integrity of the exercise and will stop at nothing at punishing anybody, whether its staff, the police or fraudsters caught undermining this very important national assignment.

“The Commission wishes to re-emphasize that it does not solicit for payments and /or bribes for recruitment.

“The Commission, from the onset, warned against this and had severally declared that the recruitment was absolutely free and merit driven, which was why no money was collected for application forms.

“Applicants completed the forms on line, and it was absolutely free.

“Anybody who has given money to be recruited should come forward with verifiable complaints to enable the Commission take appropriate action.”
