Rivers Re-Run Elections: Follow Jonathan/Buhari Example-Oshita.

Rivers Re-Run Elections: Follow Jonathan/Buhari Example-Oshita.

Director General, Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Professor Oshita O. Oshita has advised politicians in Rivers State to emulate the political spirit shown by President Mohammadu Buhari and his predecessor Dr. Goodluck Jonathan before, during and after the 2015 general elections.

He said both have bequeathed an excellent model for Nigerians on democratic contest by demonstrating that the lives of Nigerians are sacred and not to be violated even in elections.

The director, in a statement signed by his Media Assistant, Abu Michael, also condemned the unnecessary tension building up in Rivers State as preparations continued for the rerun elections on Saturday.

Professor Oshita said the acrimony being promoted by the actions and utterances of politicians and other key personalities in the state was counterproductive and not in the interest of the ordinary citizens and residents of Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole.

He said democracy was designed for conflict prevention and not to generate tension and violence.
He added that elections should not be taken as a matter of life and death.

President Buhari, he said, had demonstrated the commitment to earn the confidence of every Nigerian in correcting the ills in the polity.

He called on the electorate in Rivers State to come out en masse to vote candidates of their choice.
