The Senate on Thursday confirmed the appointment of eight Resident Electoral Commissioners, (RECs) nominees of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC).
The upper legislative chamber however deferred confirmation of three nominees for further legislative consultation.
The three are Dr. Mahmuda Isa Kebbi state, Ambassador Rufus Oloruntoyin, Lagos state, Ahmad Bello Zamfara state.
The Senate rejected nomination of Prof. Mustapha Zubairu from Niger state based on petitions received.
During the plenary session Senator Suleiman Nazif read the report on the screening of 12 REC officials for Independent National Electoral Commission.

Senator Nazif explained that the RECs, whose appointments were approved had been screened by the police, Code of Conduct Bureau and Department of State Services.
After consideration of the report, the Senate confirmed the appointment of 8 officials as INEC Electoral Commissioners.
The President of the Senate Bukola Saraki complimented the work of the chairman and urged the newly appointed officials to perform by improving the Electoral Process.
Also on Thursday, the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Agency (NFIA) Autonomy Bill scaled through first reading at the floor of the Nigerian Senate.
Recall that the Bill seeks to establish the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Agency as the central body in Nigeria responsible for receiving, requesting, analyzing and disseminating financial and other related information to all law enforcement, security agencies and other relevant authorities.
