The Shehu of Borno, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr) Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi has commended the Nigerian military and the Federal government for their overwhelming sacrifices in restoring peace to the state.
The Shehu stated this when the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 1 Joint Task Force (JTF) North East (NE) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Major General Waidi Shaibu paid him a courtesy visit at his palace on Tuesday, 24 May, 2022.
The Shehu appreciated the GOC and members of his entourage for finding time to visit the palace at a time like this despite their tight schedule of operational exigencies.
He relished how the GOC highlights the long rich historic background of the El-Kanemi dynasty.
Dr. El-kanemi further stated that, “Borno state will remain eternally grateful to God Almighty, the Federal Government and the Nigerian Military for their overwhelming sacrifices in restoring peace to the state.

According to him, “Prior to this period, 18 out of the 27 Local Governments of the state were under the control of the insurgents and the state had over 2 million Internally Displaced Persons.
“However, today the narrative has changed and the people of the state are being relocated back to their ancestral homes that were hitherto deserted due to the activities of the insurgents.
He also appreciated the continuous provision of security to the people and encouraged personnel to do more especially, as farming season is fast approaching to enable them cultivate their lands.
 “I assure you of our continuous cooperation, prompt sharing of credible information and therefore pray for unparallel victory in all your operations”, he added.
In his remarks, the GOC stated that the visit ought to have been earlier than now but was overtaken by series of events as the Shehu was unavoidable out of the town while the Division was engaged in series of operations within it’s Area of Operation.
He recognized the great role and historic endowment of the El-Kanemi dynasty, which he said, has played a vital role in moulding the people of the state, the North East and the Nation at large.
While appreciating the Shehu for his cooperation, contributions and support to the military and other security agencies in the state, he said “We still seek for your prayers to succeed as an institution, to achieve the end state of restoring peace all over the state and the North East in general”.
The GOC used the opportunity to condole the Shehu over the demise of one of his council member Alhaji Zanna Ali and also the Military Liaison Officer attached to his palace, Master Warrant Officer Donatus Vokong and prayed for the repose of their souls.
