Troops of 82 division of the Nigerian Army deployed as back up to the Nigerian Police and other security agencies on Saturday arrested 7 political thugs for threatening to disrupt voting in the Anambra Governorship election in Okpoko, Onitsha South Local Government area.
Reliable Security sources giving an update of the situation in Anambra, disclosed that with the arrest of the political thugs, and adequate deployment of security agencies, the threats and propaganda from groups like IPOB and MASSOB against people coming out to cast their votes were checkmated.
As a result of the tight security stance, indigenes’ of Anambra state turned out in large numbers to perform their civil duty of voting for their next governor.
The source informed Security-King News that the strict adherence of security agencies including the Police, Civil Defence corps, military and others was occasioned by the warning given by the General Officer Commanding 82 division, Major General Adamu Abububakar on Friday night when he silently entered Onitsha and held a meeting with Service Commanders on the need to keep to their assigned roles.

“Troops in conjunction with other security agencies effectively blocked major approaches to Anambra State from neighbouring states of Delta, Enugu and Imo” he said.
“This is with a view to enforcing the restriction on movement order during the election period as well as ensure maximum security by denying trouble makers, disgruntled elements and miscreant’s entry.
He further said, “In sector 1, comprising the entire Anambra North and South, Sector 2, comprising Anambra Central Senatorial District-Awka Northand South including Idenmili North and South Senatorial District containing Nnewi, Ihiala, Obikogu and Orumba were all reportedly peaceful and orderly in the exercise of their rights to vote.
He disclosed however that security agencies have been put on alert to brace up for probable attacks from subversive elements not happy with the seamless manner the election had gone.
He said feelers indicated that during movement of materials and voters boxes by INEC officials, these disgruntled elements might strike to cause crisis.
