South East Group Warns Ohanaeze against Endorsing Presidential Aspirant

The Pan-Igbo organization, the South East Revival Group (SERG) has strongly warned the Ohanaeze Ndigbo of the consequences of unilateral endorsement of any presidential aspirant without due consultations with South East stakeholders.

The SERG in a statement issued in Abuja by its National Coordinator, Chief Willy Ezugwu, also assured Ohanaeze leadership that such act will be a futile exercise as Ndigbo is now wiser politically.

“Having journeyed along the Nigerian political landscape from the pre- and post-independence elections, the Igbos have not only been used and dumped but also put consistently under socioeconomic disadvantage.

“The rest of Nigeria has continued to rob the South East of every opportunity to better the lots of the ordinary people.

“With no serious federal government presence in Igboland beyond airport and tertiary institutions, the socioeconomic live of the average Igbo son or daughter is nothing to write home about.

“It has taken only the self will and ingenuity of the Igbos to keep hope alive why the ordinary people continue to engage in peasantry with no roads and the least of social amenities.

“The 2019 political journey has begun with alliances and counter alliances and we ask: where is the place of South East and her people in all of this?

“Ndigbo has been accused of living in disunited political front betrayals within but it is time to prove them wrong.

“We have it on good authority that the Ohanaeze leadership is in talks with an aspirant and we warn that any unilateral endorsement of any presidential aspirant or candidate without due consultation with all Igbo stakeholders will be frustrated.

“It is time to end the circle of systematic under development of the South East. 2019 presidential election shall be used to tell the rest of Nigeria that the Igbos also have stake in the commonwealth of the country”, SERG noted.
