Special Promotions Bribery Scam Rocks Police: IGP Idris Orders Investigation, Sets up Special Panel.

Aftermath of revelations by the Chairman, Senate Committee on the Navy Senator Isah Hamman Misau that Police Officers pay bribe for Special promotions, coupled with several other petitions by officers complaining of lack of transparency in police promotions of senior officers especially ACP to Commissioners, Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris has ordered an investigation by a Special Investigation Panel.

The panel has two weeks to unravel the facts behind the allegation and submit its report to the Police boss and it is headed by an Assistant Inspector General of Police.

To kickstart its investigations, the special panel has invited Senator Hamman Misau to assist it by providing details to enable it unravel those behind the bribery scandal.

The terms of reference of the panel include, to determine the substance of the complaints, petitions and grievances from aggrieved Police Officers and members of the public on allegations of giving money for special promotion.

It also has to determine those who were involved in the bribery allegations and recommend appropriate judicial action and other punishments as it is appropriate in line with the provisions of Public Service Rules Section 030401 (j) (k) and other statutory enabling laws/Acts.

A statement, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Jimoh Moshood announcing setting up of the SIP said, “The Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris has set up special Investigation Panel to investigate complaints and allegations credited to the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, Senator Isah Hamma Misau, in the media captioned “Police Officers pay bribe for special promotion”.

“The SIP is also to investigate other petitions and complaints emanating from Police Officers on allegations of payment of money for special promotion.

“The Special Investigation Panel has consequently upon the directive of the Inspector General of Police invited Senator Isah Hamma Misau to a meeting”.

“The invitation is to enable the Senator shed more light and provide more details to the Panel that will assist them to conduct a very discreet investigation into his complaints and allegations, and those of other aggrieved Police officers.

“The Panel amongst other responsibilities has the following terms of reference; to investigate the complaints from Senator Isah Hamma Misau on allegations that Police Officers pay bribe for special promotion”.

“To investigate other complaints, petitions and grievances from Police Officers within the Force and from other members of the public on allegations of giving money for promotion, either special or otherwise”.

“To determine the substance of the complaints, petitions and grievances from aggrieved Police Officers and members of the public on allegations of giving money for special promotion, and to determine those who were involved”

“To recommend appropriate judicial action and other punishments as it is appropriate in line with the provisions of Public Service Rules Section 030401 (j) (k) and other statutory enabling laws/Acts”.

Moshood added that, “The Panel is to submit its report to the Inspector General of Police within two (2) weeks”.
