Stolen Crude: Navy destroys smuggling Boats engaged in siphoning in Onitsha.

The Nigerian Navy Forward Operation Base in Onitsha, Anambra State has destroyed two wooden boats laden with stolen petroleum products as part of efforts at checkmating oil theft.

Commander of the Naval Outpost, Capt. Mohammed Dahiru who spoke to newsmen on the destruction said the boats and its content were arrested in December last year along the River Niger waterway.

Dahiru said that the destruction was carried out on April 22 in the presence of other security agencies including Nigerian Army, Police, and Department of State Services; among others even as he warned that those perpetrating illegal operations within the River Niger would not be spared.

“We are using this opportunity to send warning signal to operators within River Niger perpetrating illegality to have a re-think as it would no longer be tolerated” he said.

“I will continue to go after them, and I will get them, especially now that our capability has been boosted by the naval authorities.
“My officers and men have intensified routine patrols which include fixed station, stop and search.

“For those that are using or want to use the River Niger waterway for legitimate activities are assured of adequate protection”.

Capt. Dahiru thanked the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice-Admiral Ibok Ibas for providing the Naval Outpost Onitsha with good working and accommodation environment saying the CNS has boosted the human capability and material resources of the Naval Outpost in Onitsha.
