Tackling Quackery: Enugu CP Suleiman assures of partnership with Veterinary Council of Nigeria.

The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Sulaiman Balarabe has assured of his command’s partnership to ensure that veterinary doctors carry out their due legal responsibilities as it concerns veterinary Practicing Committee (Anti Quackery Committee).

He gave the assurance on Tuesday 12/3/19 when a team of Veterinary Doctors of Anti Quackery Committee from Veterinary Council of Nigeria paid him courtesy visit in his office.

The Veterinary Council of Nigeria is a federal Government Agency saddled with the responsibility of ensuring a wholesome veterinary practice in Nigeria among other statutory responsibilities.

Earlier in his remarks, the Committee Chairman thanked the Commissioner of Police for receiving them and informed him that the Veterinary Practicing Premises Committee is a branch of the veterinary council whose responsibility in each state of the federation including federal capital territory is to ensure that all premises where veterinary drugs, additives, feeds etc are sold are duly registered with the veterinary council of Nigeria.

He further maintained that their responsibilities covers inspections of slaughter Slabs, animal boarding houses and pointed out that the purpose is to brief him on the activities of the veterinary Practicing Premises committee in Enugu state and to request for his support as the committee intends to embark on enforcement soon to rid Enugu state of quacks who impersonate veterinary Doctors to cause serious health hazard to the general public.

The committee members include CSP (Dr) George Okwor, the officer in charge Force Animal Branch and Veterinary Enugu State, Dr Sarah Anyanwu, and Dr Cosmos Okeke amongst others.
