Tackling Terrorism, Banditry: Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Gen CG Musa visits Niger Republic

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of Nigeria, General Christopher Gwabin Musa is currently in Niger Republic for a meeting with the Nigerien Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Mousa Barmo amidst concerns over increasing threat of terrorists infiltration from the Sahel to the Lake Chad Basin Region

Acting Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, made the visit known on Wednesday in Abuja.

The visit comes against the backdrop of recent withdrawal of Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

According to photographs released by Gusau, Gen Musa who doubles as Chairman, ECOEAS Chiefs of Defence Staff was received by the Nigerien Chief of Defence Staff.

Niger and two other countries had earlier been expelled after undemocratic change of government in their countries.

Recall that during the last ECOWAS Committee of Defence Chiefs meeting in Abuja, Gen Musa called for the return of the three countries to the regional bloc.

He emphasized that the return of the three countries to the regional bloc was necessary to defeat the insecurity ravaging the region, especially insurgency.

He had stated that efforts were ongoing to ensure that the three countries were back to the regional bloc adding that all hands must be on deck to curtail insecurity in West Africa.
