Against the backdrop of increasing drug trafficking at the nation’s international airports, the Nigeria Police High Command said Tuesday it would deploy its K9 Dog ‘trailers’ to the Abuja and Lagos International Airports while the same will be done at the Kaduna airport soon to take over when repairs start in Abuja.
Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris who made the disclosure at the inauguration of the newly acquired air-conditioned K-9 trailers in Abuja, said the Kaduna-Abuja highway would also witness the deployment of K-9 dogs as well as other strategic hotspots in Abuja for crime control.
The IGP also disclosed that the K-9 dogs will be deployed to the North East particularly to mosques, markets and other soft spots to ensure suicide bombers currently marauding the North east did not achieve the sinister aims of the Boko Haram terrorists.

Assistant Inspector general of Police, in charge Force Animal branch, Charles Ugomuoh, disclosed that other areas the dogs would be deployed included Force headquarters, National Assembly, National Defence College, Federal Secretariat and other black spots.
Ugomuoh added that the trailers would also be deployed to escort peaceful protesters and processions adding that the k9 sniffers had been trained to detect IEDs, narcotics, arms and ammunitions and crime prevention and detection.
He said that the trailers acquisition was of the latest technology and one of the many efforts of the Inspector-General of Police to re-strategize the police force for better service delivery.
Ugomuoh said the technology consisted of six compartments kennels with factory fitted air conditioner for the deployment of sniffer and general purpose patrol dogs.
