Troops intercept bandits relocating from Zamfara to Niger State for revenge attacks; inflict heavy casualty on them; neutralize scores.

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 31 Brigade in Niger State have intercepted and neutralized scores of heavily armed bandits who were moving towards the Nigerian Army location at Dankolo for possible revenge attacks following offensives by troops which in recent weeks foiled their attempts to attack several villages in the state

Reliable security sources said credible intelligence had revealed that about a hundred armed bandits who were relocating from Zamfara State following the Land artillery and air bombardments of their camps by the Army and Air Force, took off from Sangeko and were moving to Dankolo enroute Kontokoro, Machita for possible revenge attacks on troops deployed there as the Army base had constituted a stumbling block to their criminal activities.

However, the troops who were battle ready and had strategically deployed, intercepted scores of the terrorists from multiple positions, inflicting heavy casualty on the group, neutralizing scores while a request had been dispatched to the Air Component, Operation Gama Aiki for air support of fighter aircraft to neutralize fleeing bandits.

According to sources, the planned revenge attack on the troop’s location was occasioned by the ambush and liquidation of many of the bandits some weeks ago by troops at Dankolo who foiled their attack and inflicted heavy casualties on them with many fleeing in disarray

Recall that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Faruk Yahaya last weekend paid an operational visit to Niger State and charged troops to up their game and device strategies at containing the activities of bandits attacking, killing and destroying communities in Niger State.
