Troops of 195 Battalion, Agenebode Annihilate Don Waney Gang Member/Killer of 13 Residents of Obio-Akpor LGA; Arrest another Gang Member

  The Nigerian Army has said its troops of 195 Battalion, Agenebode, in a joint operation with the Department of State Service, in the early hours of Sunday 28 January 2018, engaged a senior member of the notorious Don Waney gang who killed 22 worshippers in Rivers State, in a gun duel in Sabo in Auchi, Edo State.

The senior gang member, named Mr. Oluchi Igwedibia aka Obataosu who is believed to be a younger brother to late Don Waney and successor in his crime empire was killed in the gun duel with security operatives.

The Army disclosed that Obataosu was also the leader of a murderous gang that killed 13 residents of Mgbashimini community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State in the early hours of 7 October 2017

A statement in this regard, signed by Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 6 division, Nigerian Army, Col Aminu Iliyasu said, “In continuation of the hunt for escaped members of the notorious kidnap kingpin, cult leader, illegal oil bunkerer and sea pirate, late Prince Johnson Igwedibia aka Don Waney who was killed on 6 January 2018 with 2 of his associates, in a joint operation conducted by troops of 82 Division Enugu, DSS Rivers State Command, another unprecedented success has been achieved.

“In the early hours of Sunday 28th January 2018, troops of 195 Battalion, Agenebode under 2 Division Nigerian Army Ibadan in conjunction with DSS Rives State Command, trailed another gang member of the notorious Don Waney gang to his hideout in Sabo area of Auchi in Etsako-West Local Government Area of Edo State.

There, one Mr. Oluchi Igwedibia aka ‘Obataosu’ who is believed to be a younger brother to late Don Waney and successor in his crime empire was killed in a gun duel with security operatives.

“Additionally, another suspect, 25 year old Isikan Osigwe was arrested while attempting to escape the apartment where they were harbouring together with Obataosu.

“Isikan Osigwe is cooperating with security agencies with more information about the rest of the gang.

“Obataosu was the leader of a murderous gang that killed 13 residents of Mgbashimini community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State in the early hours of 7 October 2017

“The body of Obataosu and the arrested suspect Osigwe has been handed over to the Rivers State Police Command for further action.”
