Ukanafun Killings: Akwa Ibom Police Command Commence Manhunt for Perpetrators.

Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner, Mr. Zubairu Muazu, has vowed that no stone will be left unturned in his command’s determination to arrest perpetrators of Sunday’s killings in Ukanafun Local Government Area of the state.

He said this just as he announced that a crack team of detectives, Counter Terrorist Unit and SARS for the manhunt for the perpetrators has been constituted to comb suspected black spots and hideouts in the area.

A statement by Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Bala Elkana, said, “We will not leave any stone unturned in going after the culprits behind last Sunday’s incident, where three persons, including a sister to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Udo Ekpeyong, were killed by gunmen in Ukanafun”.

Elkana stated that the Commissioner of Police, had already visited Ukanafun on a fact finding mission over a previous incident where the tragic incident happened.

He said the Police Command has sent a team of police investigators to trace the fleeing suspects pointing out that four armed men who came on motorcycles had fled after carrying out the attack.

Consequently the PPRO disclosed that the police have banned the use of motorcycles in Ukanafun and Etim Ekpo Local Government Areas, from 6pm to 7am.

He said the ban on the use of motor-cycles was necessary because hoodlums in the two local government areas under security surveillance have been using motorcycles for some time now to commit crime.
