US Govt. bestows Nigerian Navy Officer with Meritorious Service Award Badge.

United State President, Donald Trump has bestowed the Outstanding Meritorious Service Award on Nigeria’s Navy Captain Kolawole Oguntuga for the officer’s extra-ordinary personal contributions which greatly enhanced understanding, improved cooperation, and strengthened relations between the US Navy and Nigerian Navy.

Commander United States Naval Forces, Europe and Africa, Admiral Michelle Howard while presenting the award to Oguntuga at the Naval Headquarters stated that the US President happy that Captain Oguntuga facilitated visas for over 100 US personnel and training teams into Nigeria which helped to support critical bilateral cooperation on counter-terrorism, humanitarian assistance, disaster response objectives and capacity building of the Nigerian Armed Forces.      

Captain Oguntuga who was Nigerian Deputy Defence Attache to the Nigerian Embassy in Washington from 2014 to 2017 according to Admiral Howard, was also instrumental to advancing US initiatives to assist the Nigerian Navy with repairing and refurbishing its two US origin Coast Guard Cutters resulting in the signing of a $3million follow-on training and support cause to enhance operational readiness of the Nigerian Fleet.

The Navy officer is currently the Commanding Officer, NNS Ologbo, a patrol battle ship under the Eastern Naval Command, Calabar.
