US National War College students visit DHQ; seek research into war on terrorism

A team of the United States National War College (US NWC) Students led by Mrs Amanda Dory, a faculty member of the institution has paid a visit to the Defence Headquarters Abuja, as part of its study tour to Nigeria.

The visit which aimed at enabling the students conduct research on developing strategies to mitigate the challenges of violent extremism and terrorism provided a forum for the visiting students to interact with the Chief of Defence Staff and Principal Staff Officers of the Defence Headquarters.

Speaking during the visit, Mrs Amanda Dory noted that the Nigerian Military has been adopting strategic approaches in confronting the security challenges in the country, particularly the Counter terrorism and counter insurgency operations in North Eastern Nigeria, stressing that the US team is interested in learning from the experiences garnered by the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) in this regard.

She commended the AFN in its efforts toward tackling Nigeria’s national security threats.

In his remarks, the Chief of Defence Staff, (CDS) General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin observed that strategic collaboration between Nigeria and Lake Chad Basin Countries have been helpful in checkmating the activities of Boko- Haram terrorists and other forms of criminalities in the North Eastern part of Nigeria, referring to the creation of Multi- National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) as a concrete step towards defeating inter-state terrorism networks within the sub region.

Represented by Deputy Director Strategy, Brigadier General Victor Ebhaleme, the CDS said that the Defence Headquarters would continue to play host to students and participants from friendly foreign military institutions, in furtherance of strategic collaboration through experience sharing and training exchange.
